The Institute Incubation and Innovation Council (I3C), the dedicated startup, incubation, and innovation arm of IIT Jammu, recently co-hosted a pivotal workshop designed to modernize public sector administration through emerging technology. Organized by the MeitY AI Centre of Excellence (MACE) at Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu, the one-day workshop focused on practical Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications tailored for Jammu & Kashmir. The event convened senior government officials, AI technology providers, academicians, researchers, and innovators to align state-of-the-art technological developments with public governance goals.
Inaugurated by Shri Atal Dulloo, IAS, Chief Secretary of Jammu & Kashmir, the program served as a collaborative forum connecting senior decision-makers directly with key industry stakeholders.
Throughout the session, delegates evaluated over 30 customized AI applications presented by more than 20 organizations for potential pilot implementation across key sectors. In the domains of Agriculture & Health, discussions centered on AI-assisted diagnostic utilities and automated crop-monitoring systems. For Education & Skill Development, the focus shifted to adaptive learning tools and vocational skill development & evaluation technologies. Within Governance, Transport & Energy Management, participating teams demonstrated data-driven public works frameworks, internal security enhancements, and smart grid infrastructures. Furthermore, in Disaster Management & Public Works, solutions covered predictive threat modeling alongside real-time infrastructure monitoring.
During the review process, each government department presented a strategic implementation plan designed to evaluate the viability of its proposed AI initiatives. A panel of experts systematically appraised every proposal to determine whether the software had reached sufficient technical maturity for immediate operational deployment. This assessment entailed a thorough review of the requisite computing infrastructure and data assets required to support the project, while clearly defining the operational boundaries of the initial trial.

Expressing a shared commitment to practical implementation, Prof. Manoj Singh Gaur, Director, IIT Jammu, emphasized the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration in delivering localized value. They highlighted how structured synergies among government entities, academic institutions, industry leadership, and startups via incubators like I3C strengthen regional innovation ecosystems, ensuring a smooth transition of AI capabilities from conceptual research into scalable, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions designed for Jammu & Kashmir.
