About the Project

The project aims to strengthen sustainable livelihoods of Bakarwal women and youth through craft documentation, embroidery skill enhancement, product development, and cooperative institution building rooted in indigenous knowledge systems and cultural preservation.

The selected candidate will work closely with Bakarwal artisan communities in Kashmir and Samba districts, engaging in field-based design intervention, embroidery documentation, product prototyping, and collaborative development processes.

Position Details

Duration: Initially for 6 Months & extendable to 24 months

Location Field-based engagement across:
  • Samba District, Jammu & Kashmir
Remuneration
  • Rs. 30,000/- per month
  • Basic accommodation in artisan/community homes will be provided during field engagement.

Key Areas of Work

  • Documentation of Bakarwal embroidery traditions, motifs, stories, and craft processes;
  • Collaborative product development with women artisans and youth;
  • Development of contemporary yet culturally rooted craft products;
  • Assistance in design systems, sampling, and prototype development;
  • Working with artisan groups on quality improvement and product refinement;
  • Support in visual documentation and process archiving;
  • Coordination with project partners and community youth leaders.

Desired Experience

Applicants should preferably have experience in:

  • Craft documentation and product development work with textile/craft clusters (approximately 2 months to 2 years);
  • Working with design houses and/or B2B sourcing environments;
  • Field-based artisan engagement and community-led design processes.

Qualification

Applicants should possess:

  • Master’s Degree in Textiles and/or Fashion Design from a reputed institution;

OR

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant design discipline with minimum 2 years of work experience.
